Open Source Australia Industry logo

I was chatting with my associate the other day, Shayne Tanner @ Permeance Technologies, about what they are up to. Permeance specialises in open source software for corporates, government and NGO’s. One of their key products, Liferay, provides an enterprise portal. This is a really interesting and smart product. In essence, it allows complicated legacy systems to be connected together to provide a common interface through a portal. This is something that the corporates have had for years. The opportunity for organisations like schools, churches, larger nationwide community groups provided by Liferay through this enterprise portal is potentially awesome.

In our little world we run some basic applications which don’t really talk to each other. If we could link Feng Office (our project management system) to our “Road Map” database through a common portal …wow! Check our Permeance’s site if this is of interest.

Attention all “smartphone” users

We are finally looking at escaping the clutches of the evil Telco Corporation after our 2009 International Roaming debacle. So, we are in the market for new mobile phone handsets.

If it comes to choosing a phone operated by a system (OS) created by Uncle Bill and the gang or an alternative then we are with the alternative. The Android OS for smartphones is really coming of age. Version 2.1 is about to be released and the range of manufacturers offering handsets for this OS is growing. Check this out. This website is awesome!
